Penquin Sony Ericsson Incentives System
Industry: Retail/Marketing
Description: Incentive scheme for sales personnel
Insight
Sony Ericsson share a sizable percentage of the mobile phone market in South Africa. Competition for this market share is fierce. Sony Ericsson devised a plan to incentivise retail store sales people and managers to sell their handsets instead of other leading brands. They required a system to track sales and allow them to advertise and administer performance incentives based on these sales.
Process
WWW designed a permission based system which allows users to interface with it via the web front end and/or their mobile phone. SMS functionality was critical to the success of the project, allowing sales people to log sales and receive account balance updates via an SMS short code. To achieve this WWW integrated the system with a third party bulk SMS provider. The system is self maintaining and gives the administrative users the power to change advertising, manipulate and manage data via the web front end.
Value
The incentive management system has been published live and is currently in the process of being rolled out to stores across Southern Africa. The system caters for over 15,000 users in more than 4,000 stores.
Technology
The solution was built using Ruby on Rails and MySQL as the database integrating with a third party bulk SMS solution.
