1) Insight
Express Air Services was using a number of different systems to track its air freight business across numerous clients (airlines and couriers). This presented a number of operational difficulties and a more streamlined system was required.
2) Process
WWW implemented a project in phases. The first, Elaboration Phase, required all of the company’s operating systems to be documented in a User Requirements Specification. The second, Design Phase, involved designing the database, screen layouts, feed structures and other aspects of the full system. Currently (start 2008) the process involves building the highest priority items in iterative steps using an Agile Development approach.
3) Growth
EAS is now able to visualize the entire best system to run their operations and has all of their required systems documented. This is enabling both EAS and WWW to prioritize the building of the system and to meet non-yet-built system elements in manual and semi-automated ways for the time being.
Technology
The solution has utilized UML and will be built on the Microsoft .NET stack (C#) with a Microsoft SQL Server Database and with an MVP framework. The intellectual property will be held in a new entity called FreightEasy and could be available for sale to similar companies in the near future.
