Christmas Wishes

The year is almost over and we just wanted to thank all of our partners and clients for a great year. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy some time off. We have been extremely busy this December, launching the new RE/MAX Australia Pulse billing system and overhauling the RE/MAX South Africa website amongst other things.

We have also updated our own website and are working on a new coding framework, to be launched in 2007. Watch this space…

Here’s looking forward to an exciting 2007 for all of us.

WWW lands large Australian contract

This is the latest press release regarding our new contract to roll out RFS in Australia. If we can’t win in sports at least we can win some contracts…(see this article on Bizcommunity)

White Wall Web (WWW), cape based web database application development company announced today that they have signed a deal to roll out their RFS software to the RE/MAX real estate franchise group in Australia. RE/MAX is the world’s largest real estate group, covering 63 countries with almost 120 000 associates in nearly 6,000 offices.

RE/MAX of Southern Africa and WWW collaborated on the building of RFS and the system was prototyped in Southern Africa. Subsequently the software was successfully piloted in New Zealand. “We currently have over 3,000 users of the software excluding web site visitors to the property listing module” claims Peter Flynn, MD of WWW.

RFS has now been licensed to RE/MAX Australia. “This is a significant contract because the Australian region has great potential for RE/MAX International. We are very proud to have been selected to manage their system requirements and I feel it is a strong vote of confidence not only for us, but the South African ICT industry in general.” Flynn is a strong believer in the benefits of ICT companies being based in South Africa regularly citing the favourable time zone for international business, lower labour costs and English as a business language.

Recently White Wall Web was awarded as one of the most promising emerging ICT companies in South Africa by the Technology Top 100 awards for their work on RFS and another joint venture product called Finassets. “I am proud of our achievements,” says Flynn, “There is a lot of work ahead for us to do as we are still a relatively young company. I believe that we are on the crest of a wave and much of the hard work we have been putting in over the past few years is starting to pay off. It is great to see satisfied clients and receive recognition for a job well done.”

The first phase of the project roll out will now begin with Flynn and Gido Snyman, RFS Project Manager, departing shortly for Brisbane to conduct onsite consulting.

Bill Gates Retires

Have a look at his letter to his staff – interesting (thanks for the heads up Tiaan).

Can we safely assume that Vista will be released before July 2008 – seems to be implicit in terms of Microsoft’s planning?

Whatever opinion you may have about Microsoft, I am sure all of us appreciate the work of the Bill and Belinda Gates Foundation.

Keep up the great charity work Bill, especially in Africa.

BarCamp Cape Town

I am currently at BarCamp Cape Town – day two. It is rather small but there are some smart guys here and the discussion is very stimulating.

Currently Adrian Rossouw from Bryght did a useful presentation on Drupal. Everyone who has the required knowledge seems to agree with our hypothesis that Drupal is the best platform of CMS deployments.

Raoul Snyman did a great presentation on an overview of the technical considerations for SEO and SEM.

Rafiq Phillips provided some inspirational motivation on innovation and facilitated a discussion around what makes blogs more successful than other sites in getting high search engine rankings. A takeway – standards on the web are of vital importance on the web!TYFYC Rafiq… :)

An Axoim Framework (Python) overview was presented by Moe Aboulkheir

Jeremy Thurgood spoke about Nevow, a Python based framework/”web application construction tool kit.” Looks powerful and I would like to get some thoughts about Nevow vs. other frameworks in the debate – so please contribute if you have any thoughts…

Duncan Withers introduced OpenProject.

I hosted a discussion on programming approaches and focussed on Agile. I was impressed by the interest and knowledge of the other BarCampers.
Laurence Baldwin spoke about antispam software – spam assassin.

I will edit this post as things develop…
